hello my fair friends and comrades. i am yak. welcome to the new blewbmx. it just got even better. allow me to explain. you may remember me from a website called theshovelload which closed down in an epic finale. blimey. since then, riding quietened down a bit and me and aidan learnt to do other things.

however, as of recent times ive been kinda missing writing stuff down and putting pictures in places along with us riding a tad more often. aidan mentioned restarting a website, but when ed introduced the idea of contributing to the long standing blewbmx, we’d be fools to decline. so ive just been given a 10 minute lesson in how to make this blog thing work, and the future looks rosy. whereas before i’d save pictures up to do entire updates, me and aidan can just throw pictures up and write shit not too dis-similar to this.

large thanks go to ed for making it all happen. ive had a bunch of pictures saved up for a while and will slowly leak them here.

lets begin:

we found this grass bank in the vicinity of abingdon back in june, on a sort of industrial estate. so seeing the potential a few of us carved a lip into it using a block of wood and a metal stick, using our hands to shape it and feet to pack. call us 1996. aidan turndown.

this is pete, one of the local abingdon rippers. his sister is cute, you’d agree. kickout.

ripper! aidan destroyed this hip, in both meanings of the word. meaning 1) he went higher than anyone else and played tailwhips (not landed). meaning 2) the lip literally fell apart whenever he rode it, cos he rode the weak bit. step thru.

however weird this lip was, which it was a bit, with a strange hip angle and a tree stump that was easily hit, it rode so nice. yak hip table. i need a new wide angle lens…

greg nottingham update

To start with…i am spending lots of my money at the moment and i’m still unemployed…but to be honest…as long as i can work in NZ and Australia (which is guarenteed…NZ passport is in the post)…im not too bothered…got the graduate overdraft…you know how we roll. Nottingham is awesome…met loads of the locals…they are all really cool and utter shredders…in particular Gez, Joe, nikki croft and matt wakefield. Yesterday me and nikki met for first time and went for a session…then on way to pub (after a few stellas) a group of chavs said..”give ya a tenner if ya dooo a bunnyhop brah”…so we said ok…then one turns around and says that a hop is too easy…”do a tailwhip bruv”..so nikki busts one on the spot..slips the pedals…but we still both got ?2 each for a pint. BMX busking is where its at…gonna be stackin chips in no time.

The Speak easy pub is rapidly becoming one of my favourite boozers of all time… good tunes on the juke box (all rock, punk, metal etc), they let you take your bike inside, and all the guys who work there are really friendly. As an added bonus… the speak easy ledges are right outside, so with a bit of dutch courage you can try your hand at all kinds of ledge trickery.

Graham and Pete came up on Wednesday and we had an awesome session. I had 5 immunisations for travelling that day..so every knock and bruise crippled me..but that aside…the weather was awesome…pete did his first curved wallride…and we blazed much chron while sitting in a beer garden drinking local ales. SUMMER RULES!

Pete said he may come back up on tues for tuesday club (all the local riders get together for a session then beers) and this time he’ll bring his camera…so next time I post one of these i’ll hopefully have some pics to put up. Adam is meant to be arriving in shottingham soon too..but to drink beer…and nothing but beer…looking forward to seeing ADAM the TANK in full swing.

Right..the weather is too good for this..i have to go take advantage and go for a ride…i’m starting to find myself spending more and more time on this…even though the only reason i set it up was to keep in contact with you all while i’m abroad…Damn you myspace…DAMN YOU!
