Dead End jam weekend

So last weekend, I headed down to the sunny seaside for the Dead End BMX jam at Weymouth skate park on the south coast. I headed down by myself to meet up with Jesus in Bournemouth, and met Timmy, Pipe, Aidan and Yak at the park.
Dead End is a company run by Leeroy of 5710, who go about things the right way and are starting to put out some parts and more fresh T shirt designs. Head to their myspace to find out more and support the cause.

If you want to see good pictures from the jam, Theshovelload is where you need to be, not here. Loads of crazy riding went on in the day, some loose kid bomb dropping from back rail to midi ramp, loads of flairs, although no one wearing them, and anything Aidan did was generally crunk. I heckled the shit out of almost everyone there for taking BMX even slightly seriously, and Ollie spread yet more of these vicious rumours he seems intent on spreading about just about everyone and their dog. Stop it Ollie!

Much more importantly than any BMX action, Saturday night was most definitely party night. We headed back to Ollie’s place in Bournemouth, and hit up some sweet cheap cider right off the mark. Timmy and Pipe pretty much shut down the evening open mic session with the background beats of Dizzee Rascal. Watch out channel U, streets is watching, Lightsinthewoods battle team coming soon.

So we’d had it in a fashion through the day, so went off to Bournemouth to have it through the night. When we arrived at the Consortium, the four of us chilled it for a few minutes, then were greeted by the noise of Luke, Jefferies, Johnny and more. Timmy was amazed that Luke can ride so good, when he fell through the door and landed with a chair on his head. Jefferies ended up kicked out for me and him wrestling in the stairs, but they let me stay. Logic? We made some love in the end anyway.

Messy?

Messy?

This sums up the state of most. We chatted shit to some chicks on the way home, then stumbled across the strip club. Timmy stole a massive flower pot and gave it to the strippers smoking outside, who were stoked, and named him the hobbit or something similar. He’s such a charmer it’s untrue.

Evil looking Pipeson

Crazy looking Pipeson

Who knows how we got to Ollie’s house, but Timmy produced the video footage with trying to force out as much poo as possible. Pipe got the rigger boots on, for the rigger boot disco in Ollie’s front room. He’s one hell of a host young Dave.

We then showered Timmy in a couple of litres of vegetable oil, he could have made the front cover of Men’s Health proud. He went to bed like that and woke up still naked, proper sticky with vegetable oil and probably bad aids. Who knows how he got it all off in the end, horrible stuff it is.

After drinking a shit load of orange juice and eating a bunch of French bread, we hit up Slade’s for the early morning session. No one felt this much, not surprisingly, so we headed off to our jumps in the woods. Unbelievably, Timmy managed to still pull through and kill every line, on his new Mutiny ‘Limousine’, as did the less haggard Pipeson. Unfortunately, at this time, my flash equipment was still playing up, so I only managed a couple of mediocre shots. The one of Timmy double canning is still bloody awesome, even if I do say so myself.

After a short but fun session at our jumps, Timmy, Pipe and I headed off to Epsom for a evening ride. By this point I felt a little better, so had a really good ride at those jumps, which are obscenely smooth and so much fun, just flowing around doing bar turns and bike leans. Watching Liam and Matt Priest ride the big line was definitely a treat not to be missed.

There has been a large proportion of Timmy photographs in this update, for which I am truly sorry! Guaranteed good times whenever Timmy’s about. Rode Harrow and Gay Woods yesterday with Richy P, both of which were absolutely amazing sessions, got really stoked and had the best fun in ages. I love bikes. Didn’t shoot any photos unfortunately due to non stop riding at both spots, plus Harrow ghetto youths. Look out for a shed load of photos from down the local some time soon.

Weekend fun at the seaside

This weekend I headed back to the wonderful seaside resort of Bournemouth, where I have of course been at uni the past 2 years. Friday night drive down straight to the mighty Slade’s Farm for a little session with Pickles. This was then followed by my lack of recent drinking making a small number of Stella’s equal a large amount of kookedness at Jesus’ place. Underexposed photo assortment starts HERE.

Woke up Saturday morning feeling a little haggard, G had to head out with his son so I chilled it for the morning watching foot and mouth news. My Dad’s a farmer so this was quite a frightful story to hear. Especially as he was supposed to be selling 200 lambs that very morning. Let’s hope it gets sorted out a lot better than it did a few years back.

There’s a new bike shop opened up in Bournemouth, BMX only, meant to be really good. Wayne had gone on a spending spree and turned up with Pickles late morning with a Chase frame to build up. Dialled. Soon after, Ollie turned up too, which was amazing as always, boy do I love that Polish giraffe. Once we had sorted everyone’s business out and Wayne’s bike was sorted, we headed to the place my dreams are made of, our jumps. All the pictures in this update are taken at that session on Saturday afternoon.

Ollie's tables are the best

Ollie’s tables are the best

Saturday night involved meeting up with a bunch of guys, of which Aron and Ash were already pretty leathered. There were lots of chants of last night of being single, pretending we were on a stag do, to lure vulnerable women into getting their lovely lady parts out. We also saw the hottest chick with the deepest, roughest voice. Aron introduced himself in some manner or another…

Tabletopper - Ollie the new Bancroft?!

Me tabletopper - Ollie the new Bancroft…?!

When we got to Ollie’s in the early hours, I passed out, to wake up with three unknown guys in the room with me, sketched me out proper badly, pretty funny I guess. Turned out they were Ollie’s friends from school staying in Bournemouth that night.
Woke up in the morning and arranged to meet Gilly at the wonderful heaven that is Bar End in Winchester. Sunday afternoon sessions in the woods are always rad, and we all rode pretty sweet considering the hung over states we were. It’s always good to hang out with those guys too, and they were awesome as always. Probably the best ride I’ve had in about two months I’d say, along with the previous day’s at our place.

Rob Castle and Barclay turned up later on which was rad, they were even more haggard than us. Castle always has a good story to tell, including videos of Netley and him bubble bathing together, and possible placenta feasts going down. I hope my tale by tale update has hit your sexy time spot; it was the raddest weekend in absolutely ages. Same again some time soon I hope if the weather stays dialled. Just a shame I don’t get my arse into gear and take a greater quantity of photos. I’m getting lots of sleep again tonight; my body is so drained right now. Take it easy, and go sun yourself at every possible moment. Byyyyeeeeeee.

Steve high hop Geall is really old

Although Gilly is old enough to be my Dad, and is probably older than most people’s grandmas, he can still manoeuvre a bicycle around a little bit. Last Wednesday we had a final ‘Gilly’s day off’ session and had a little blast around King’s Park. These foot plants were pretty obscene, real old school. And if anyone’s old, it’s you Gilly!

BMX picture

Sometimes the photographs you just turn around and tae are the ones you like most. This is an example of that happening, except for the shadows across his ugly mug.

BMX picture

More seriously Gilly is proper ancient, but I’m going to miss the sessions we have at random places, and the fun times had by our trails chaps in the woods. Digging always involved constant banter, and was a good time, every time. Here’s a Vic Murphy inspired stunt.

Job hunting isn’t quite the easy task that I thought it would be when starting earlier this week. Agencies advertise jobs they don’t seem to have, and going round places the laborious way, one by one, is a time exerting task. Here’s what I’ve been up to lately. Firstly, my chick, someone put a photo of her on the side of a phone box. She’s amazing.

BMX picture

This sign is out in the sticks, about 2/3 of the way back along the 4 Mile walk I sometimes think is a great idea when I get leathered in town. Took a lot of concentration to take this.

BMX picture

Rum is officially the most dialled liquid ever. Pirates drink it too, which has got to be a good thing.

BMX picture

This rabbit is having a nap in the same place every time we go in the woods lately. Must be tired, it’s stiff as anything too.

BMX picture

We’ve been building something rad at the end of a line in the woods this week. More on that later. In the mean time, go watch the new cheltbmx.com video from Luke, featuring Cheltenham guys, and two weird looking hillbilly kids. Epic jam tonight because of the horrible weather I hear, lets do it.

Sessions at woods, Banbury and Bournemouth

So it’s been over a week since my last update, slackness. Team Blew has halved in a matter of a week, which sucks, but Yak and Aidan were holding us guys back anyway I say. Plus, I’ve seen my Grandma twice and theshovelload isn’t online yet, whats going on?! My good friend Eddie, who I’m spending 4 months ‘daaaan under’ with over winter stayed with us in Bournemouth a couple of weekends ago.

BMX picture

Ended up having a real good session down t’woods. I never take enough photos when a good session goes down, or at least set the camera up well to make them come out nicely. Eddie kickout, above, and Jesus kickout, below.

BMX picture

We went to a party in Wimbourne with all the Slade’s crew. Only Eddie, Aron, Castle and I wanted to go to town so we trekked it off. On the way, Castle pulled his balls over his belt and advertised it as a new Metallica belt buckle to girls. One boyfriend got crazy and took his own belt off, and smacked Castle over the arm. Expecting Castle to back off, which he didn’t, Castle chased him down the road and the guy tripped off the curb, scorpion face grinding the road. Priceless.

BMX picture

We also went to a crappy club, which was pretty much a town hall with a sound system. One of the shit places you know will be rad. We lost Aron and Castle, but apparently they got arrested for fighting and Castle pissed all over the cell, great work.

BMX picture

Hay fever fucks up your eyes proper. Not good flying through the woods struggling to pull back your eye lids and spot where you’re going.

BMX picture

Jesus with a sweet table. I’m back home right now, and have been resurrecting my old woods which Gregg and I built at before I went to uni. Considering it’s only a few days work the line is looking amazing. Although he has a BMX for fashion reasons, Gilly is still the seasoned bow legged mtb pro he always was. Here he demonstrates this trademark stiff old bugger style in mbuk. They tell you how to build jumps. Apparently you build tabletops, master jumping it, then take out the middle and use it to build the next jump. You also use a large base of logs. News to me.

BMX picture

The folk festival was also FULL of rude boys. Everywhere. They were clearly having fun which is the main thing, and there were probably record amounts of fights, despite the high police presence. I think Wimbourne has an underlying theme tune of NWA, Straight outa Compton.

BMX picture

Here Gregg, who is a digging machine, demonstrates out fresh step up hip, which has a landing as steep as the take off. Should be a treat. Previously a mellow three foot jump, it’s now a 5 foot lip with a 5 ½ foot landing, stoked. Digging in wellington boots, in soaked woods, in June, is pretty bloody bizzare. Gregg is also possibly one of the nicest people I know, and I never have a bad time when we hang out.

BMX picture

Today my friend Annie and I went to Milton Keynes for some shopping fun. Pretty rad, Foot Locker has the best collection of trainers in the history of footwear. The Lego shop also had this rad little dude hanging out by the door, I want one. Hopefully head back to Bournemouth in the next week or so for a couple of weeks, but really need to start working for Australia trip. Hopefully going to have the tickets bought by Friday and applied for the working Visa, so steps are starting to happen at last. Good times. I have my flash set up wireless now which I’m stoked on, so should have some dialled photos soon, possibly from Epic on Thursday evening. Adios amigos.

Woods are the best

BMX picture

Skate park sessions are getting more and more scarce which is always a good sign. The woods are looking dialled, lines are getting better and summer evenings are the best time of the day, and year. Ollie still took time to blast a fakie air on the lazy man’s terrain.

BMX picture

Ollie has now finished uni for the year so is always available to come out to play. We have been going to the woods lots, good times. I’ve been sorting my back out a treat with shovelload stretches too. Experimenting with slow shutter speeds is pretty fun, some stuff came out quite nicely.

BMX picture

BMX picture

Gilly and Ollie do opposite handed tire touchers over our third in the mains. This jump is too much fun, just wafting about on it all day long. I really like the way these photos have come out. I don’t use my camera anywhere near as much as I should at the moment, expect less slackness as a new Blewbmx feature.

BMX picture

Super casual 1 hand layback, not bad for a 37 year old cross country mountain bike rider. Had an awesome weekend this one, my good friend Eddie came to stay, another update real soon from that with some eventful stories.

BMX picture

Ollie probably does some of the best tabletops in BMX. That does not take away from the fact that he is a Polish giraffe that came to the country in a box in a lorry, does not hold a work permit and will labour on a building site for tuppence a day. Look forward to another update, possibly even tomorrow. Ed has his operation this week, so send him your best wishes immediately. Lots of love, Chaz. x
